OPG Xray

  • Orthopantomography, often referred to as an OPG X-ray (or panoramic x-ray), is an X-ray technique that provides a comprehensive, wide-angle view of the lower face.

  • It captures all the teeth in both jaws, even those that have not erupted, like wisdom teeth.
  •
  • Additionally, it provides insights into the jawbone and the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

    Preparation for OPG Xray

      • The OPG unit at our dental clinics in Dubai is specifically designed to move around your head when taking the X-ray.

      • Just like with any X-ray, you will be asked to take off jewelry, glasses, or metallic items as they can interfere with the image.

    • The panoramic X-ray is usually done in about 3 minutes, but the actual image capture only takes about 20 seconds.

    FAQs about OPG Xray

An OPG Xray, or Orthopantomogram, is a type of panoramic dental X-ray that provides a full 360° view of your mouth. It captures all your teeth, jaws, and the surrounding structures in a single comprehensive image, making it a valuable tool for dentists to assess oral health.

An OPG Xray is typically needed before major dental treatments, such as when assessing wisdom teeth, planning implants, or evaluating orthodontic needs. It’s also a valuable tool for comprehensive check-ups, helping your dentist get a full view of your oral health and plan the best course of action.

An OPG Xray uses a minimal amount of radiation, making the exposure very low and considered safe for patients.

Usually, this type of X-ray is covered as part of the initial exam and is commonly used in treatment planning. However, coverage can vary depending on your specific policy, so it’s best to check the details with your provider to be sure.

An OPG Xray is different from a regular dental Xray because it provides a full, panoramic view of your entire mouth, including the teeth, jaw, and surrounding structures. Regular dental Xrays, on the other hand, focus on specific teeth or small areas, providing a more detailed look at those spots. The broader view of an OPG Xray helps visualize the overall condition of your dental and jaw health, while regular Xrays are perfect for zooming in on localized issues.
